The Lawn & Garden Parts Specialist provides knowledgeable, responsive parts support to retail customers, commercial landscapers, technicians, and other dealership departments. This position identifies and supplies the correct parts, accessories, and maintenance items for lawn and garden, compact, and outdoor power equipment while processing transactions accurately, supporting inventory control, and helping maintain an organized and professional parts department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet customers promptly and provide professional assistance at the parts counter, by telephone, and through electronic inquiries.
  • Ask effective questions and use model, serial, and product information to identify the correct parts, accessories, attachments, and maintenance supplies.
  • Use electronic parts catalogs, manufacturer resources, service information, and the dealership management system to research availability, pricing, substitutions, and order status.
  • Prepare accurate quotes, sales orders, invoices, special orders, and backorders in accordance with dealership procedures.
  • Recommend appropriate related products, maintenance kits, wear items, accessories, and safety equipment based on the customer’s equipment and intended use.
  • Provide timely parts support to the Service and Sales departments to help reduce equipment downtime and improve the customer experience.
  • Communicate clearly regarding availability, expected delivery dates, order changes, and pickup or delivery arrangements.
  • Receive incoming shipments; verify quantities and condition; report discrepancies; label, stock, and store items in assigned locations.
  • Pick, stage, package, and ship parts for customers, technicians, inter-branch transfers, and vendors as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records by following transaction procedures, assisting with cycle counts and physical inventory, and promptly reporting discrepancies or low-stock conditions.
  • Process eligible returns, exchanges, cores, and warranty-related parts documentation according to dealership and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and well-organized counter, showroom, display, and stockroom areas.
  • Support seasonal merchandising, promotional displays, and stocking needs for lawn and garden products.
  • Stay current on product applications, model changes, supersessions, manufacturer programs, and industry developments through training and self-study.
  • Protect customer and dealership information and follow all cash-handling, credit, pricing, and inventory-control procedures.
  • Follow all dealership safety rules, manufacturer guidance, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support dealership operations.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of parts, retail, customer service, warehouse, mechanical, agriculture, construction, automotive, or outdoor power equipment experience preferred.
  • Experience with lawn and garden equipment, small engines, or mechanical parts is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to interpret parts diagrams, technical descriptions, model and serial information, and basic mechanical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of lawn mowers, compact tractors, handheld outdoor power equipment, utility vehicles, and related accessories is preferred.
  • Accurate keyboarding, data-entry, cash-handling, and basic math skills.
  • Ability to learn dealership software, electronic catalogs, manufacturer portals, email, and standard office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain professional in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Parts, Service, Sales, and branch personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record may be required for assigned pickup or delivery duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position and move throughout the parts counter, showroom, warehouse, and dealership areas for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently reach, bend, stoop, crouch, grasp, and use hands for computer and material-handling tasks.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry parts weighing up to 50 pounds; heavier items require appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically and to read labels, catalogs, screens, and technical information.

Work Environment and Schedule

Work is performed in retail counter, showroom, stockroom, warehouse, and dealership settings. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather, temperature changes, dust, noise, moving equipment, oils, fuels, batteries, and other materials commonly present in an equipment dealership. Required personal protective equipment must be used when applicable.

The schedule may include weekdays, Saturdays, overtime, and extended hours during peak spring and fall seasons, based on business and customer needs.
